Lets see we got Narrative Cinema, Text and Context, and Acting for Non majors out of the way. Also had my first shift of my new job as a lab monitor. Really getting excited about this year and I haven’t even had a single major class. So lets break down the classes I’ve had so far
Narrative Cinema- So this class is a lot sweeter then I thought it was going to be. It’s in one of the auditoriums of the school. Each class we are going to watch a entire film or excerpts from various films and talk about it. Reason we are in a auditorium is that the teacher wants us to experience the films as though we were originally intended so that is pretty sweet. Since it was the frist class pretty much the only thing we got to talking about was what the difference between the kiss in Spiderman and the frist ever kiss. How sweet is that. Below is the frist kiss ever filmed.
Next we got Text and Contexts teacher for this class seems really chill and knows her stuff. One good thing is that we don’t have a final exam or a final research paper. Sicknasty. Still not sure what this class is about but Im looking forward to it. Teacher played devil’s advocate a few times which was really funny and awesome.
Then acting for non majors well what is there to be said? Teacher didn’t show up to the frist day of class. I shit you not. Go figure, hopefully this doesn’t happen again.
So thats the frist two days of classes heading back down to DE today. To support Melinda and her sister in a triatalthon she is doing for Fibromyalgia research.
Well I think I’m now fully recovered from the madness that was monday’s shoot with George Hrab for his song “Who Dog’s the Outlet” which is off of Interrobang. Fun times had a great dinner with himself and Donna, which she then kicked me out, so that I didnt have to be on my motorcycle after dark. She said it was her big sister moment. Quite cute :D
Back in Philly put in two more applications today at Applebee’s and Oliver Garden, we’ll see where those go. Going to go to Uarts for a job search But ANYWAY time to get onto the main topic(s) of this post
I have a mix creatively called Brent’s mix. It is almost always changing if it gets over a page on iTunes I delete it and start over. Useally a song or two will transfer over from a former mix. Pretty much what it adds up to is that if you listen to the mix at any point you can get a pretty good idea of where my head is right now. But there is one song a song that has been sticking around for awhile now.
“The King of Carrot Flowers Part 1″ By Neutral Milk Hotel. I was introduced to this song by my friend Sam in a video project of hers. Well I finally got around to downloading it and it was nifty but I didn’t give it much thought. The one day I got done helping her with her final video project (I was a hitman that killed her ironically enough) we were out of it and randomly she pulls out her little stringed instrument like a short gutair I can’t for the life of me remember what it was called, so she then starts playing me some music for me from her band then sings to me King of carrot flowers, we then talked about music for a good few hours then ordered sushi. It was one of my fondest memories of freshmen year of college.
I am in nothing but sheer awe when ever I am able to witness a artist that makes something for me or performs something for me. It’s something that I have been lucky enough to enjoy on more then one occasion. Some of the things are in collages in pictures frames, Drawings on mix cds, a photograph in a frame, or some times if I’m luckily I am able to experience a song being sung to a small group of friends or in this case Sung solely for me
This is why King of carrot flowers stays in Brent’s mix. It reminds me of the feeling that I felt that day, and what I wish to evoke with my art for other people
I present to you the second part of the George Hrab interview and if you ask me my favorite part the interview. Along with the video of “The Assumption” which is quite the treat.
Once again here you can find George’s site which I urge you to check it out
Sorry about the episode being late with the episode crazyness has been going on with me more on that later
It’s my honor to present to all of you George “fuck mothering” Hrab. (I added that middle name) A amazing musician he has his own show called the Geologic podcast, if you like this show more then likely you’ll like his. It’s a weekly requirement that I get some Hrab in my ears. Take that how ever you want.
I sat down with George the other week and we had a great discussion. So great in fact that I have to divide it into two episodes. Other wise it would have been a 45 min monster clogging up the tubes we call the internet. In this segment of the interview we talk about george starting college.
Hey everyone not a lot of time for me to talk busy on working on things for finals that are coming up. No time to plan out a proper episode (I apologize for last week) so Im showing you guys my final project in my video strategies and tactics class. Now For the assignment we had to film the same narrative useing short cuts in one version long cuts in the other, and then the narrative with out any cuts. Not my best work but Im quite proud with how it turned out considering the constraints. You should have seen my original idea it was pretty sweet, Super-heroes that teleport, but I digress.Next Week I have a special episode planed out for you guys. I really hope you all tune in again next week.Once again if you have any questions or comments feel free to email me at bsweichsel@mac.com.
I am privileged to bring you all a IN PERSON interview with Seth Harwood the author of Jack Wakes up, Jack Palms 2- This is Life, Jack Palms 3, and The Short story series, Long Way from Disney.
I was lucky enough to meet up with Harwood while he was in Philly and he was generous enough to give me some of his time out of his busy schedule to sit down with me and let me interview him.
So thanks again Harwood your the man!
Once again I want to thank my sponsor omigod.net. Go over there and check them out!
Im really busy getting my new apartment set up and squared away. Not to mention some personal stuff that I would rather go into. But I do have two things for you all to look at
Box Social is a new TV series being shot here at Uarts and let me tell you it’s a mind fuck to be sure. Not gonna say much more but here’s a preview of the next podcast.
Sorry guys for no blog post’s this week been a very busy week and very dramatic one. But I do have a surprise for all of you. It comes in the form of a podcast novelist. Which one? You’ll have to wait to find out.
Hey everybody this is a treat for all of you a full length interview with actor and writer Tim Coyne. He also host’s the Hollywood Podcast.
In the interview we talk about his college experience. What made him decided to go for a career in acting and moving out to LA. This is a great interview for anyone thinking about becomeing a actor and or moving out to LA so send it to your friends.
So had the reading for Self Divided by Self. If your new to the show/blog I’ll go over it again. Considering that I think most of you might not know the story its not problem Hell I love to hear my self talk/write I wouldn’t be doing this anyway.
Self Divided by Self is a script I wrote way back in the summer of 2006 with the intention of shooting it in the spring/winter of 2007. Well that did happen sort of, Due to things beyond my control I was unable to shoot the the final scene and a scene in the middle so it never got finished having a half finished film all ways bugged me so I decided to try and re-write the script and 56 pages 2 endings later. I have this new script and I’m Planning on making it into film (shot on video cause Im poor) in may once school ends.
So If you follow me on my twitter feed (which you should its all sorts of fun) you know I’ve been racking my brain trying to get this thing edited. Well finally got it edited the night before the reading. Now if you don’t know why I would have a reading, it’s to make sure that it all works when it comes out on paper and people finally start reading it. Well me and my roommate Tyler got up early to get coffee and doughnuts for anyone that came. Cause if your willing to come and help me out since I can’t pay you I will feed and give you drinks. Also to make copies of the script. We get to the place and it starts to look rough. Animation majors have pretty much the same thing we do and not that I have anything against animation majors but they all seem to have a interesting quirk about them that seems to rub actors/actress the wrong way.
so we ended up only having one other guy and 2 girls show up. Which turns out is the minimum you need for a reading of Self/Self so that worked out. We read the script. Which has a lot more grammar issues and punctuation then I thought it did. Not to mention some just shitty word choices on my part.
In essence I got my ass handed to me.
I loved it. Thats the whole point of college isn’t it? To get your ass handed to you so that when you get out with your degree that your better then when you came in cause if your not then what was the point?
I may add more to the script due to what some people have said about the plot. Not that anything was bad but it had people wanting more. Have to think about that if that’s what I want or if I should simply keep it that way. Oh the thoughts of a filmmaker.
well until sunday when you guys get a great interview with me and Tim Coyne of the Hollywood Podcast
