Perspective 44: Sickness

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

No this doesn’t anything to do with Scott Sigler unfortunately. But it’s pretty fucked up. I got the idea for this short little film from the film by E. Elias Merhige called Begotten.

One cool thing about Begotten is that you can view it for free on neumerous sites on the internet. But this film is not for the weak of heart. I mean that this film is stomach churning.

So with out further ado enjoy Sickness. Below are cast and crew details

Cast: Zach Nelson, Brent Weichsel, Caroline Boyd. Crew: Brent Weichsel, Matt Duffy. Shot on 16mm Bolex, Transfered on a Elmo and edited on final cut pro. Song Ghost 10 by NIN

Truth in

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

One of my favorite songs recently has been I’m Ready, I am by The Format you can listen to the song here if you care to. One of the lines in the song is.

Im trying to find truth in words, in rhymes, in notes, in all the things I wish I’d wrote

Its funny it got me thinking about my work personally. I try to convey truth weather it be about ourselves relationships with other people or our society. Film to me is the best way for me to attempt to get that across, but at the same time by its very nature film is deceptive. The more real your film looks like (narrative film here not documentary) the more unreal it is on the backend.

Just a little observation I had.

Perspective 36: Copyright

Monday, August 25th, 2008

So a little talk about copyright sort of more a over view. With full copy right, creative commons, and public domain. Go into it a little bit more on why Trent Reznor and Radiohead worked. Also going into why it only works for them and that it would not have been as succesful for a smaller band.

Also I annouced the bittorrent give away for Oct next blog post will go more in detail on what movies and what not will be included.

Personal Performances

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Well I think I’m now fully recovered from the madness that was monday’s shoot with George Hrab  for his song “Who Dog’s the Outlet” which is off of Interrobang. Fun times had a great dinner with himself and Donna, which she then kicked me out, so that I didnt have to be on my motorcycle after dark. She said it was her big sister moment. Quite cute :D

Back in Philly put in two more applications today at Applebee’s and Oliver Garden, we’ll see where those go. Going to go to Uarts for a job search But ANYWAY time to get onto the main topic(s) of this post

I have a mix creatively called Brent’s mix. It is almost always changing if it gets over a page on iTunes I delete it and start over. Useally a song or two will transfer over from a former mix. Pretty much what it adds up to is that if you listen to the mix at any point you can get a pretty good idea of where my head is right now. But there is one song a song that has been sticking around for awhile now.

“The King of Carrot Flowers Part 1″ By Neutral Milk Hotel. I was introduced to this song by my friend Sam in a video project of hers. Well I finally got around to downloading it and it was nifty but I didn’t give it much thought. The one day I got done helping her with her final video project (I was a hitman that killed her ironically enough) we were out of it and randomly she pulls out her little stringed instrument like a short gutair I can’t for the life of me remember what it was called, so she then starts playing me some music for me from her band then sings to me King of carrot flowers, we then talked about music for a good few hours then ordered sushi. It was one of my fondest memories of freshmen year of college.

I am in nothing but sheer awe when ever I am able to witness a artist that makes something for me or performs something for me. It’s something that I have been lucky enough to enjoy on more then one occasion. Some of the things are in collages in pictures frames, Drawings on mix cds, a photograph in a frame, or some times if I’m luckily I am able to experience a song being sung to a small group of friends or in this case Sung solely for me

This is why King of carrot flowers stays in Brent’s mix. It reminds me of the feeling that I felt that day, and what I wish to evoke with my art for other people

Scripts, Job, Music, and back to scripts

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Recently I just finished “Man Made Monologues”(MMM). Now time to get cracking down on the edits. “My Father and Mother are My Children” (FMC) currently has a little bit of a block on it having some trouble figuring out a certain part. I know I need these 3 different characters together but one of them is incredible powerful and I have to figure out how to use him correctly with out him being presented as less then what he is. Tricky rope to tread.

So I have the fun trial of trying to get a job up in philly this weekend. I’m planning on trying to get a watier gig seems like that would be the best thing for me at the moment. Job hunting is hard enough not to top it off that the economy is in the shitter. Just nuts to top of the shit sundae.

Do you have certain songs that when ever you listen to no matter how you feel they get you going? Mother Superior by Coheed and Cambria is like that for me. Work today was pretty crappy raining off and on, high humidity temperatures in the 90’s just not a good day. Had a lot of things on my mind and on the way back from the job site. That song just happened to come on and I really started to feel better about the day. Got home banged out a couple of emails got a little bit farther with the FMC issue was able to fix my airsoft gun that was jammed. Now once Im done writing this I’ll get back to FMC but for now life is good. Not sure how long that will last but we shall see.

Now a couple of lines from My Father and Mother are my Childern

Maria: “I’m not taking any chances, You always shy away from the real shit. The Hard shit”

Cain: “You know—”

Maria: Fuck off Cain

See you all tomorrow

Perspective 26: George Hrab part Uno

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

It’s my honor to present to all of you George “fuck mothering” Hrab. (I added that middle name) A amazing musician he has his own show called the Geologic podcast, if you like this show more then likely you’ll like his. It’s a weekly requirement that I get some Hrab in my ears. Take that how ever you want.

I sat down with George the other week and we had a great discussion. So great in fact that I have to divide it into two episodes. Other wise it would have been a 45 min monster clogging up the tubes we call the internet. In this segment of the interview we talk about george starting college.

ENJOY!
